BUNKING

The leather soles of our shoes are given an added decorative pattern known as “bunking”.

This is a process that is done in the finishing room and takes years of experience. An expert eye is required to master the traditional freehand skill. This is done with a bunking wheel, sometimes called a crows wheel which is attached to a small wooden handle. The wheel has the decorative pattern in and when heated with a naked flame leaves the imprint of the pattern on the sole.
